Beeld! Nyck de Vries rijdt Mercedes F1-wagen

Eindelijke is het zo ver! Nyck de Vries rijdt vandaag voor het eerst in een Formule 1-wagen. En niet zo maar een barrel, maar de nieuwste wereldkampioen van de structurele kampioenenmaker. Daarmee verslaat Nyck die andere Nederlander, Max Verstappen.

Goed, de Mercedes W11 is de droomauto van elke Formule 1-coureur. Tot afgelopen twee weekends bijna helemaal onverslaanbaar met Lewis Hamilton of Valtteri Bottas achter het stuur.

Vandaag is het de Nederlandse Formule E-coureur Nyck de Vries die in de wagen van Lewis of Valtteri mag rijden. Het is een beeld dat we graag nog vaak gaan zien, een Nederlander in een bijna onverslaanbare auto. De Young Driver Test biedt Formule 1-teams de kans om nog één keer te rijden met de huidige auto, voordat hij deze winter wordt doorontwikkeld voor het volgende seizoen. Max Verstappen hoopt volgend jaar met zijn Red Bull eindelijk eens in de buurt van de Mercedes-auto, waarin Nyck de Vries vandaag mag rijden, te komen.

Daarnaast kunnen 'onervaren' coureurs een beetje wennen aan het rijden in een F1-bolide. Zo rijdt Fernando Alonso vandaag als "jonge hond" in de wagen van Renault. Alonso was zo lang weg uit de Formule 1, dat hij -ondanks zijn leeftijd- inmiddels weer als jongeling geldt. Voor Nyck de Vries is het toch echt de eerste keer in een kampioenenmachine.
