Revenge of the Cullinan: Rolls-Royce-designer stapt op

Taylor (niet te verwarren met de Liberiaanse politicus Charles Taylor) was sinds een jaar of zes in dienst bij de chique BMW-dochter, maar gaat nu 'to pursue alternative business interests'. Dat is PR-speak voor: hij verlaat onze organisatie om waarschijnlijk ergens bij een concurrent terug te keren. Net zoals Karim Habib dat deed: hij verruilde BMW om ons nog steeds compleet onduidelijke redenen voor het zieltogende margemerk Infiniti.

Met de Phantom VIII en de Cullinan (en de 103 EX, in mindere mate) is de designbasis gelegd voor de komende tien jaar bij Rolls-Royce. Andere modellen als de Ghost en Wraith/Dawn krijgen waarschijnlijk eerst wat elegantie retoucheringen te verwerken, alvorens flink op de schop genomen te worden. Een nieuwe designer kan dus redelijk de tijd nemen. 

Rolls-Royces laatste product, de Cullinan, is niet onomstreden. De auto gaat natuurlijk uitstekend verkopen, maar tpch buitelen autopuristen over elkaar heen om het ding af te branden. Net zoals dat bij de Bentley Bentayga gebeurde. We willen u het immer sardonische commentaar van SniffPetrol niet onthouden:

The issue started earlier this week with a large leak of Cullinan, leading to the full horror of today’s Cullinan release. The Cullinan release is reported to have come from Goodwood in Sussex, though the real source is actually Munich, and is claimed to lead to vomiting and nausea.

“Anyone looking directly at the Cullinan may experience feelings of sickness, despair and rage,” explained dangerousness expert Dan Gerousness-Ecspert. “In the spectrum of unpleasant things, it’s somewhere between the first outbreak of Cayenne and 2009’s full-blown Lagonda concept.”

Anyone exposed to Cullinan is advised to look away immediately and to wait for a suitable period of time until the Cullinan has drifted to China or the Middle East where hopefully it will be contained.
